If the horsemeat scandal has rocked your confidence in burgers or lasagne a new ‘citizen science’ initiative held in UK might be of interest. Using a rapid DNA identification technique, members of the public were urged to bring their own samples along for testing by MadLab. Randox Food Diagnostics continue to provide a test kit for the detection of bute (Phenylbutazone), a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs) approved for use in horses. This method could be used to detect the presence of horsemeat, by identifying the drugs presence. Visit our dedicated Phenylbutazone page for more information @ http://randoxfooddiagnostics.com/phenylbutazone-meat
