Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is the most common and toxic aflatoxin found in food and feed commodities worldwide. Produced by moulds in warm, humid conditions, it commonly contaminates grains, cereals, feed, oilseeds, dairy products and more.
Recognised as one of the most potent naturally occurring carcinogens, AFB1 is linked to liver damage, liver cancer, acute aflatoxicosis, and immune suppression. In animals, AFB1 is metabolised to Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1), which can be present in milk and dairy products, making routine monitoring essential throughout the food and feed supply chain.
