Antimicrobial compounds are often used in food production to treat infections and also to function as growth promoters to ensure high yield. However, there are some health concerns regarding the presence of antimicrobial compounds in food and the development of antibiotic resistant strains of micro-organisms. As a result of these concerns, many countries have banned or limited the use of antimicrobials in food producing animals and have set maximum residue limits (MRLs) to ensure the safety of the product. These regulations have created the need for effective screening solutions.
The Randox Food Diagnostics Antimicrobial II Array Plus includes the detection of 6 classes of antimicrobial compounds: Quinolones, Ceftiofur, Thiamphenicol, Streptomycin, Tylosin and Tetracycline residues can all be detected using this one testing platform. Biochip array techology is unique as no other testing kit available on the market can be used to detect all of these compounds simultaneously from a single sample. The excellent generic nature of our antibodies allows detection of a total of 34 compounds including the major tetracycline metabolites and epimers tested for in tissue and urine samples.
