Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis
Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis is a respiratory disease which can cause affects the cattle’s upper respiratory system and can cause fatal pneumonia in some cattle along with a prolonged drop in milk yield which is caused by the Bovine Herpers Virus 1. This is evidenced as a symptom-less cow can have a reduced milk yield of 2.6 litres per cow per day.
If the strain is virulent (of a disease or poison, extremely severe or harmful in its effects) then the morbidity rate is up to 100% within that herd. Transmitted by the respiratory or the genital systems. Outbreaks are most often seen in cattle between 6 and 18 months of age however all ages of cattle are susceptible. It was estimated that the total loss due to Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis was approximately £8 million per annum in the UK.
Bovine Pathogen Array
Randox Food have developed a Bovine Pathogen Array test which can simultaneously detect 6 commonly found pathogens. It utilises Randox’s innovative Biochip Array Technology for the multiplex screening of a milk sample for 9 biomarkers related to prevalent bovine diseases, ensuring the highest degree of sensitivity and specificity. Tests can be conducted on a single sample of milk with a full set of results being received within 2 hours 30 minutes of the test being conducted.
The 6 pathogens detected on the Bovine Pathogen Array –
- Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD)
- Bovine Herpesvirus I
- Paratuberculosis
- Leptospirosis
- Neospora Caninum
- Fasciola Hepatica
At Randox Food we aim to make screening simple and with this new and industry leading Bovine Pathogen Array.
